As the US’s most loved retailer with over 4000 stores, Walmart is a great place to purchase pretty much anything including your next item of bling.
They stock a wide selection of rings, bracelets, chains, earrings, and other jewelry items both within their own range and through third-party sellers.
If you’ve purchased jewelry from Walmart but want to make a return, it’s crucial that you get familiar with their returns policy which can vary depending on a few factors.
Failure to do so could end in you being lumbered with an item you don’t want.
To help you there, we’ve explored what Walmart’s return policy is for jewelry items, how to make a return, when to expect a refund, and much more.
Let’s dive in…
What is Walmart’s Jewelry Return Policy? In Short
In short, you can return jewelry items to Walmart for a full refund or exchange within 90 days of purchase. This is reduced to 30 days for many jewelry items sold by third-party sellers so it’s important to check the listing of the item so you aren’t caught out.
The simple way to check whether your item has a reduced return window is to head along to Walmart.com, find the listing, click on it, and then look in the right-hand column.
For example, this ring comes with a reduced 30-day return window where we’ve highlighted:
Some other third-party sellers stick to the 90-day return window as per this listing:
Therefore, it’s important that you check and do not assume that the 90-day window will apply automatically.
In general, you can return jewelry to Walmart for all manner of reasons such as:
- If it’s ill-fitting
- If it’s defective
- Duplicate orders
- If you aren’t happy with the way it looks
- Mistaken orders
- Unwanted gifts
How to Return Jewelry to Walmart
You can either return the item in-store, which is the fastest and easiest way to secure a refund/exchange or you can follow the online returns process.
To return your jewelry using the online process, do the following:
- Log in to your Walmart Account
- Go to your purchase history
- Find your jewelry item from your order
- Choose the order
- Provide your reason for return
- Select whether you’d like to exchange them or receive a refund
- Select save
- Click continue
- Choose the method for return (i.e. mail or in-store)
- Print off the prepaid USPS/FedEx labels
- Click submit
- If making a return by mail drop off your item at your local FedEx or USPS location
For items over $300 in value, Walmart provides these instructions:
What is Walmart’s No Receipt Policy for Jewelry?
Without a receipt, Walmart will need to see your government-issued identification so they can check your details on their systems to make sure you’re not abusing it.
You will then be offered the following:
- An exchange
- A cash refund for items worth below $10
- A Walmart credit to spend in-store for items worth over $10
Remember that most sales can be traced through your Walmart account if you purchased online. You will have been sent an invoice/receipt upon purchase.
Do I Need the Box, Accessories, and Paperwork?
Walmart asks that you include all of the original boxes, grading, certificates of authenticity, and appraisals when making your return.
If you’re missing any of these (particularly for higher-valued jewelry items) we’d suggest speaking to Walmart on 1-800-925-6278 (1-800-WALMART)
If you’re only missing minor packaging, you will probably be fine. You may encounter an issue if you’re missing key certificates or accessories, however.
How Long Does it Take to Get a Refund?
Walmart says to allow up to 10 business days but you should expect this to be slightly longer for jewelry items worth over $300 as Walmart will put your return item(s) through a validation process to make sure it’s authentic.
For these higher ticket items, Walmart says to expect a refund 10 days after the validation process which they say takes 48 hours.
What to Do Outside the 90-Day Return Window?
If the return window has already lapsed when you’re looking to make a return, we’d suggest doing the following:
- Reach out to Walmart and explain your situation. They may be willing to extend the return window if it’s only just lapsed;
- If the item has developed a fault, still reach out to Walmart as it will still likely be under warranty which you can claim against for a repair or refund;
- The final option is to simply sell the jewelry on websites such as Jollys Jewellers, Fox Fine Jewelry, Sotheby’s, or Worthy.
How Does Walmart’s Returns Window Compare to Other Stores?
We think it’s always worth looking at some of the competition to see how their return windows compare.
So we’ve pulled up the data from some of Walmart’s competitors. Here’s what we found:
Store | Return Window |
Macy’s | 30 days |
Costco | Return any time |
Nordstrom | Return any time |
Amazon | 30 days |
Target | 90 days |
Final Thoughts
Walmart provides a fairly generous 90-day return window for most of the jewelry items it sells, although this is reduced to 30 days in many cases where the item is sold by a third-party retailer on Walmart.com.
Together with hazzle free returns and a fairly good selection of jewelry items on offer, Walmart is a convenient and trusted place to source your next piece of bling.
