18 Ways to Make $1600+ a Month from Home

man at desk (1)

The birth of the internet has opened up a whole range of work-from-home opportunities, many of which didn’t even exist 20 years ago.

There really isn’t a better time to be alive if you want to work from home.

It used to be that real work from home opportunities were few and far between, mainly due to restrictions in telecommunication. Thankfully, the internet and super fast broadband have made working remotely a doddle!

Better still, I am not just talking about side income opportunities but ones that can actually replace your real job.

There will be many reasons why working in your day job is no longer viable. Perhaps you want to be closer to home, maybe you can’t stand the commute, perhaps you’re not fond of your colleagues.

Work-from-home jobs are a revelation as you can:

  • Choose your own hours
  • Experience not essential
  • Avoid the dreaded commute
  • Fit around your childcare commitments
  • They can be cheap to set up and run
  • You can definitely replicate or even better your day job income

If you’re thinking about transitioning into a work-from-home job then why not just start it in your spare time to see how you take to it?

So, without further delay, let’s look at 18 cool work-from-home jobs that pay well, at least $1600 per month, and up to $100k per year, and even beyond.

Flip for a Profit

This is definitely one that can be done as a fun side job or even full-time once you’re making some money.

Flipping goods for a profit is essentially finding products at a bargain price and selling them on for a profit.

You can find products to sell in a variety of different places:-

  • Garage sales
  • Antique stores
  • Closing down sales
  • Auctions
  • Amazon
  • Ebay
  • Craig’s List
  • Facebook Market Place
  • Charity Shops

But is it a sustainable and realistic way of making money?

It certainly is!

Super Flippers Rob and Melissa make over $100k a year doing this.

Some of the things they’ve flipped and the resulting profit will blow your mind:-

  • Door handle: Bought for $8, sold for $200
  • Double stroller: Bought for $90, sold for $380
  • Patio set: Bought for $50, Sold for $2,100
  • Carousel Horse: Bought for $175, Sold for $1,299
  • Old radio: Bought for $15, Sold for $200

Maybe it’s just me but there is something uniquely satisfying about finding a bargain and making money from it.

Rob and Mel have created a course where they reveal all of their golden tips on how to turn this into a profitable business venture.

Proofreader

This is a brilliant work-from-home job!

Proofreading involves scanning text to check for grammatical, punctuation, spelling, and other writing errors.

If you’ve got a keen eye for detail then this could be the perfect side hustle or even fresh career choice for you.

Proofreaders can work completely remotely as the documents you’ll be checking can just be emailed or accessed over the internet. It’s, therefore, the perfect work-from-home job.

A lot of proofread work is in the legal and medical industries but you could be proofing text from pretty much any industry.

On a freelance basis, you can charge anything up to around $150 per hour but most annual salaries are around $50k – $65k per year.

I would strongly recommend Caitlin Pyle’s proofreading course “Proofread Anywhere” if you’re interested in pursuing this full-time. She is pretty much the queen of proofreading, making 5 figures from home each year. Her course teaches you literally everything you need to know about this exciting opportunity.

Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistants (or VA’s) work on a freelance basis carrying out online virtual tasks for people who contract them.

You might be doing things like:-

  • Managing someone’s diary
  • Overseeing someone’s emails
  • Creating content for their social media accounts
  • Digital marketing
  • Proofreading articles
  • Dealing with customer enquiries

The salary is great too with many VA’s earning up to $5000 a month.

It’s the perfect new career opportunity as literally, anyone can do it. All you need are basic IT skills, no formal qualifications are required.

If you’re interested then check out Gina Horkey’s Course where she teaches how she earns over $4000 a month working as a VA.

Transcriptionist

Transcriptionists type up pre-recorded audio into formal documented text. They normally work within the legal sector, typing up what was said in Court.

To do the job, it helps if you have accurate and fast typing skills but these can always be learned on the job.

Transcriptionists can earn up to around $40,000 per year and there’s a high demand for the work.

Again, this is not a job that requires any formal qualification.

Literally anyone can do it!

If this interests you then I would recommend Janet Shaughnessy’s course “Transcribe Anywhere” which will show you not only how to transcribe professionally but also how to build a fully-fledged work-from-home transcribing business.

Setting up a popular website or blog is an extremely lucrative way to earn money.

However, it’s important to remember that not every website or blog makes money. You need a niche that is tried and tested as making money doing this is all about having a wide enough audience. In other words, you need to have enough visitors to make it worthwhile.

Some of the niches I know perform well and make money are:-

  • Mommy and child
  • Fashion
  • Finance
  • Home improvement
  • Food
  • Health and well being
  • Lifestyle
  • Travel

You can make money in a variety of different ways but the main ones are:-

  • Affiliate marketing (i.e. promoting other people’s or companies’ products for a commission)
  • Display advertising (i.e. putting ads on your website that you receive money for – usually based on the number of visitors who see those ads)
  • Selling your own products. You might make courses, e-books or tangible items like jewelry, clothing, or arts and crafts
  • Paid/sponsored posts. When you’re large enough, companies will actually offer you money to promote their products or services on your website

This is by the more lucrative home business on this list as the earnings potential is huge. This website generates $1000 a month and I spend around 10 hours on it a week.

There are tons of websites and blogs making a lot more than that. Even 1000x more.

I have written a post about how to go about setting up your own profitable website or blog. It’s not that difficult and just takes some patience and hard work.

Data Entry

Not very exciting but probably one of the easiest and most accessible work-from-home careers.

A lot of companies now offer work from opportunities for data entry work so it’s a credible option if you want easy but steady work.

You’ll need a fairly accurate and consistent typing speed and experience always helps. However, no formal qualifications are required.

The average hourly rate is around $15 per hour so it’s not the most lucrative work-from-home opportunity but it’s certainly worth considering.

Some data entry companies to consider are:-

Social Media Manager

Social media managers manage the social media accounts of people and businesses that have a big presence on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.

You’ll be mainly doing social media marketing working to promote your client’s brand and products. You may also manage their contacts, write their posts, administrate their account, and manage their advertising campaigns.

The average salary is around $35,000 – $60,000PA but you can charge a lot more than that on an hourly basis when you’re proficient and experienced.

English Teacher

The power of the internet means that you don’t necessarily have to travel to a school to teach children.

There are now quite a few opportunities out there to teach kids from the comfort of your own home.

Most of these jobs revolve around teaching English to foreign children, often in Asian countries.

You’ll usually need a bachelor’s degree, some teaching experience, and a good internet connection to do these roles but not all companies require the first two.

You’ll earn up to around $25 per hour as an online teacher.

I would recommend:-

Book Keeper

Bookkeepers make up to $60 per hour from home.

You’ll essentially be responsible for managing the accounts of small businesses which can now be done remotely over the web.

It’s better if you have some accounting experience but this is not essential as you can do a course in simple accountancy before looking for work.

I would recommend Ben Robinson’s learn to be a bookkeeper course that you can find here

Scopist

The job of a scopist is to edit Court transcripts which are basically the log of what was said in Court proceedings.

You’ll need good typing skills that are consistently accurate and fast. However, you don’t need any formal qualifications to do this work.

The work of a Scopist pays up to $60,000PA so it’s a high-paying venture once you have the necessary experience.

You can learn how to be a work-from-home Scopist with this course by Linda Evanson.

Graphic Designer

graphic designer

For this one, you might think “don’t I need some qualifications to do it”?

The answer is no. Anyone can do graphic design. If you’ve landed here from Pinterest you’ll have probably clicked one of the pins I designed. I have zero experience in graphic design.

Graphic design can be anything where you’re using even novice design skills.

For example, you could be making pins for Pinterest, designing t-shirts, designing website logos, or even making flyers.

Obviously, if you have got a graphic design background this will be the perfect work-at-home job. But even if you haven’t, websites like Fivver are awesome for getting freelance graphic design work, no experience or qualifications are required.

Dog Sitter

This is the perfect side hustle if you love walking, caring for, or minding dogs.

With applications like Rover you can just download the app, sign up and be in touch with thousands of needy dog owners in no time.

They will pay you to walk their dogs, pet sit whilst they’re away or even mind their dogs at your place for a period of time.

No qualifications or experience is required!

You can expect to earn about $15 per hour doing this so it’s perhaps not a full-time job opportunity but definitely worth looking at as a convenient side job.

Affiliate Marketer

Affiliate is basically promoting another person or company’s product or service in exchange for a commission if someone click your affiliate link and goes on to buy the product or service you’re promoting.

It’s an awesome side hustle and even full-time job opportunity as:-

  • You don’t have design or make a product – you’re promoting someone else’s!
  • You don’t have to worry about complaints, returns or stock
  • You can earn passive income (i.e. make money whilst you sleep)
  • You never have to worry about updating the product
  • Anyone can do it without experience or qualifications

This blog makes $1000 a month through affiliate marketing. It really is the eighth wonder of the world in my view.

The sky really is the limit with affiliate marketing. For example, Ryan Robinson from Ryrob.com makes over $40k a month promoting the web hosting program, BlueHost.

You can read more about affiliate marketing in my 3500-word guide here.

bluehost

Want to Set Up a Website?

Starting a blog to make money isn’t as hard as you might think. I started this blog 6 months ago and it now makes over $1000 every single month whilst I work full time in the day.

On a scale of difficult things I’ve done in my life, I don’t even put blogging close to the top. It still surprises me how easy it was to earn my first few dollars with zero experience.

It’s also a really cheap business to run – All you need is web hosting that you can get here with BlueHost for as little as $3.95 per month, a platform to run your blog on (I recommend WordPress), and some persistence. Take those steps, don’t give up and you can thank me later?

.

Rental Host

With websites like Air BNB you can put your entire property or even just a spare room up for short-term rent.

This is the perfect work-from-home job or side hustle to replace your part-time job. It’s perfect if you live in an area that’s close to the city or is attractive to tourists as you’ll have plenty of opportunities to make money.

You don’t need any experience or qualifications to do this.

The average Air BNB host makes $924 a month so it’s definitely a tried and tested method of making a good side income.

Website Tester

Website testing is a credible way to replace your part time job and is a surefire way to make money at home.

You don’t need to have any special skills to be a website tester. For example, you don’t need to be an IT expert or even have any IT qualifications.

Websites like User Testing will pay you up to $10 an hour to test websites.

This is therefore the perfect side job to replace your part-time job, although it’s unlikely to make you enough to replace a full-time job.

Interpreter or Translator

If you speak a foreign language then this is a work-from-home job that will pay you up to $60,000 per year.

Obviously, it is only open to those who can speak a foreign language but if you can then it’s definitely a job that can easily be done from home.

You aren’t just limited to spoken language either. There are plenty of freelance jobs out there for translating written as well as spoken language.

I would recommend Rev and We Localize to find such work!

Freelance Writer

There are now thousands of work-from-home opportunities on the internet if you’re a freelance writer.

You could offer your services to write blog posts, web pages, instructions and even e-books.

The average hourly rate for a freelance writer is $25 so it’s fairly well paid.

I would recommend using any of the following to find writing work:-

Bonus Side Hustle

One of the easiest ways to make quick cash is to complete online surveys.

There are a lot of scam survey companies so you need to know which ones to look out for.

I would recommend any of these 3 websites to earn anything up to $300 a month if you can get on the right surveys.
