Macy’s Shoes Return Policy: Ultimate Guide

SHOES (3)

Macy’s is one of the most loved stores in the US with a massive $18 billion revenue annually.

They stock a breathtaking variety of shoes with over 16,000 pairs listed on their website as we speak.

If you’ve purchased a pair of shoes from Macy’s, either in-store or from Macys.com but you’re looking to make a return; perhaps they don’t fit right, you’ve changed your mind or they’re an unwanted gift, then it’s essential to become familiar with their return policy.

Most companies have a limited return window in which you can return goods; if you miss it you may not be able to return them.

To help you there, we’ve explored in detail what Macy’s return policy is and will bring you up to speed with the return window, whether you can return worn shoes, how to return them, and much more.

Let’s dive in…

What is Macy’s Shoe Return Policy? In Short

In short, you can return shoes to Macy’s up to 30 days from purchase for a full refund or exchange.

This means you can return shoes if:

  • They’re an unwanted gift
  • They don’t fit
  • You’re not happy with the aesthetics
  • If you ordered by mistake
  • Duplicate order
  • If you’re sent the wrong order

Can I Return Worn Shoes to Macy’s?

Macy’s official policy is that returned items must be in their original, saleable condition with their original tags.

We would therefore recommend you check them thoroughly before wearing them to make sure you’re happy with them.

If you remove the tags, wear them several times, and then decide they’re not for you, then you may have difficulty returning them.

However, if you’ve worn the shoes and they clearly don’t fit and are causing discomfort, you should still be able to return them to Macy’s. The same applies if they’re defective, for example, if the heel breaks off.

How to Return Shoes to Macy’s

shoes

If you purchased your shoes from any of Macy’s stores, then they must be returned in-store. You cannot use the online returns process.

Simply take the shoes back to any of Macy’s stores with your receipt. However, please note that they are not currently offering a curbside returns service.

If you purchased shoes from Macys.com then you can return them either in-store or using the online returns process.

To use the online return process do this:

  • Go to Start A Return
  • Login or
  • Input your order number and email or phone number
  • Follow the steps
  • Print off the return label
  • Drop your shoes at the nearest UPS drop-off point

If you want to exchange your shoes then you can do this either in-store or by returning your original pair by using the online process and then simply re-ordering the new pair you want.

Does it Cost to Return Shoes to Macy’s?

Returns are provided free of charge with a pre-paid UPS label.

However, Macy’s will not refund you the original shipping and delivery fees that you paid when you originally purchased your shoes.

However, they do not charge a re-stocking fee like some stores charge so there will be no fee just for returning them.

Can I Return Shoes to Macy’s Without a Receipt?

You can return shoes to Macy’s without a receipt but you will only be eligible for in-store credit to use in-store.

If you don’t have your receipt then Macy’s advises taking along your credit card, return label, packing slip, or the order confirmation (this is sent to your email upon purchase if you bought your shoes from Macys.com).

Accordingly, you will only ever really encounter issues if you purchased the shoes in-store and are unable to provide your credit card or receipt, in which case you’ll be eligible for an in-store credit only.

If you purchased online, then you shouldn’t encounter this problem as an invoice is emailed to you upon purchase that you can use as proof of purchase.

How Long to Get a Refund for Shoes from Macy’s?

Macy’s stipulates that you should allow up to 10 business days from receiving your shoes.

It will therefore take around 14-21 business days in our experience as you need to allow for return shipping time, the 10 days processing time, and then time for the money to show back up in your account.

However, this may vary depending on your card issuer or bank as they may have different processing times.

What to Do Outside the 30-Day Window?

If you’re outside of the 30-day window already then you will still have some options:

  • Firstly, contact Macy’s to explain your situation. If the 30-day window has only just lapsed, they may have some leniency, especially if you have a good reason
  • Secondly, in the case of broken or defective shoes, check the manufacturer’s warranty. You may be able to seek a refund, repair, or replacement
  • The third option is to sell them at stores such as Vinted, FarFetch or Wearesott

Final Thoughts

In summary, Macy’s offers a 30-day returns window on shoes purchased from its stores.

This is not particularly generous and one of the shortest we found in her comparison.

However, Macy’s has a huge selection of shoes to choose from and does provide free returns delivery but they will not refund your original delivery charges.
