As the second largest electronics retailer in the US, Best Buy is a powerhouse when it comes to the sale of electronic goods.
But what happens if you’ve seen a gadget or electronic device cheaper at somewhere like Walmart but you’re loyal to Best Buy?
You may be wondering whether Best Buy will match Walmart’s price so you buy the product from Best Buy instead.
Utilizing price match guarantee policies is a sound way to save yourself hundreds if not thousands of dollars a year and sometimes you can even beat the original price you were quoted.

Will Best Buy Price Match Walmart? The Short Answer
Best Buy will price match any competitor within a 25-mile radius from their store so provided Walmart has the product you’re looking at in-store and there’s a Walmart within 25 miles of your Best Buy (and there usually will be), you should be able to secure a price match.
We’ll cover the intricacies of the policy below.
Best Buy’s Price Match Policy in Detail
As we’ve said, provided you have a Walmart within 25 miles of your local Best Buy, you shouldn’t have any issue securing a price match.
However, there are a few exceptions which include:
- Clearance items
- Open items
- Refurbished items
- Any item only available to certain groups such as members
- Special offers such as Christmas, Cyber Monday, Black Friday etc…
- Any product sold in a bundle offer, freebies, pricing errors, credit card offers, gift offers, and subscription services
If you don’t have a Walmart close to your Best Buy store (which is unlikely) then on the express wording of Best Buy’s policy they won’t price match as they only price match the following stores outside the 25-mile rule:
- Tiger Direct
The simple solution is to go to a Best Buy store where there is a Walmart within 25 miles.
Although, on the basis of the research we have carried out there does appear to be some leeway. One Best Buy former employee told us that their price match policy is actually more flexible than the above and when he was asked to price match when working there a manager would invariably approve it.
What About Walmart’s Online Shop – Will Best Buy Price Match it?
Best Buy will still price match items you’ve seen on Walmart’s online store, Walmart.com, just as long as the Walmart is within a 25-mile radius of the Best Buy store.
A top tip to use when trying to secure a price match is to first ask if the store will beat the price you’ve seen rather than just match it. Sometimes you’ll get lucky and you’ll not only get an equal price but you’ll beat the one you’ve seen elsewhere.
What if I’ve Purchased the Product – Will Best Buy Still Price Match Walmart?
Yes, Best Buy’s policy is that they will still price match something you’ve bought at Best Buy (subject to the above) if you then see it cheaper at Walmart.
Best Buy’s policy is that you return to them during their returns window (15 days for standard and 60 days for Totaltech members) and explain to them that the price has dropped elsewhere (Walmart in this instance) and they should refund you the difference.
How Do I Secure a Price Match at Best Buy?
You can do this either online or in-store:
- In-store – approach the checkout or front desk. Bring proof of Walmart’s pricing such as a screenshot from Walmart.com or a photograph from the Walmart store or ask Best Buy staff to check Walmart themselves to bring up their pricing;
- Online – use Best Buy’s chat function to inform Best Buy of the cheaper price at Walmart;
- Call Best Buy’s number 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289) to discuss Walmart’s cheaper pricing over the phone.
Provided you do not fall within the above-mentioned exceptions, you should have no difficulty securing a price match at Best Buy if you’ve seen the product you have your eyes on cheaper at Walmart.
Walmart stores are located widely throughout the country and there will generally be one within 25 miles of your local Best Buy meaning you can usually secure the price match you’re looking for even if the cheaper price you’ve seen is on Walmart.com.
